After my presentation i have a lot clearer view of what it is that i want to produce for the Met Office. There are a couple of mistakes i made:
Changing the target audience from everybody to 18-24 year olds. I thought this would work on a social media level however after some feedback it seems that it would be a very bad idea to limit myself and the target audience especially when the brief clearly states everybody. This will obviously make the challenge harder however i can see the error of my ways in altering it in this way. The broader spectrum will make it harder however it would not make sense to then condense this media to one specific audience as it is meant to encourage learning and education within weather.
Another flaw was using snapchat in the way that i did. This would be hugely costly and would not make sense to continue this side of the project any further as i forgot to take money into account and see it from the companies perspective who would ultimately be forking out for this huge expense. I am really unsure of if continuing the editorial side is really worth it as its quite different to the evergreen content. As well I realised the brief ask for either or not a bit of both so in that case i feel like both these things have been an oversight in terms of the brief and i should stick more rigidly to the guidelines that have already been set and not alter them for my own satisfaction.
Therefore although the snapchat concept is one i feel quite strongly about there really isn’t much scope for any development in terms of usability. I have decided to stick strongly to the evergreen informational content as i said in the presentation that it needs updating and refreshing so this is where i will start my process.
I have made a start with the prototype however after showing it in the presentation i realised a few things:
- the clouds look too much like rocks
- upon further research lightning comes from the ground to the cloud not the other way round
I am not too disappointed with this as it is really just a jumping off point.
it does mean that more research into the process needs to be done before thinking about textures and styles.
I also need to think about voice overs (script) explaining the content and a storyboard of sorts explaining the imagery.
